Post Merdeka Eve gig at Gravity Bar, CQ. Playing at clubs has always given me mixed feelings. First it was at Zouk with the band back in KL (had a great time rocking out with the band and partying afterwards VIP style), then Evolution (which was pretty awesome) and now CQ. I had a great time last night but I think it reminded me very much of the Zouk gig and I was beginning to miss hanging out with the boys. Cheers to Allan! It was great catching up with you bro. big shout outs to Tim (and friends), Ken Wai, Daph and Ally. Ally, you missed the little live shout out! Cheers heaps to Lionel and Damien from the band, Nobody setting the pace for the night.
Waking up to a 7am start this morning was tough and to top it off, there was road closures in the city causing me to get to church late for recording. I was fuming and all I wanted to do was scream at someone but I just realised that I had to put everything aside as I didn't want to bring anger into the church. God is so good that he was able to turn a bad start to the day around and made the rest of it fantastic.
I played a set at Destinos Cafe in the arvo and it was brilliant. It was one of those shows that will satisfy one's thirst. Great response, great friends and heaps of high fives.
The rest of the day was spent with great friends all the way till dinner and ended perfectly with a huge Mexican dinner. I am full to the brim. Happy days!

It's 3:39 AM now. I just got back from an insanely long but awesome day. I was mixing for The Bright Star Alliance, The Rose Line and Hiroshima Will Burn at The Castle, out in Dandenong. I had a great time mixing three very awesome bands! Top blokes too! I caught a ride back to the city with the Hiroshima boys, made a quick snack, gobbled it down and took a breather before heading out for sound check for tomorrow's Merdeka Eve gig at CQ.
Check this out, sound check was scheduled at 2AM! It's the first time I've ever done a sound check at this time. There's always a first for everything. Add that to the list, check! The system at CQ is wicked and sound check was a breeze. I am definitely looking forward to the gig. Hung out with the sound boys and the boys from Nobody for a bit and then, here I am.
Now, it's time to crash! Goodnight world.

I just realised that all this while that I've been here in Melbourne, I've still been posting based on Malaysian time. I should have changed it to this time zone. No wonder some of the dates and times are wrong.
Anyway, it's 2:28 AM as I type this. I got home from work not too long ago. I mixed a couple of bands at DV8 earlier tonight and it was a pretty cruisy night. I just thought I'd unwind before I hit the sack.
It's funny how reality hits you sometimes when you least expect it. Sometimes routines tend to numb you and things tend to not stand out to you until it's pointed out to you. Ever get that feeling? This thought was floating in my head while I worked tonight. When people work, I sleep and when people sleep, I work. It's an interesting lifestyle.
Enough thinking. I was supposed to unwind.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow night. I'm mixing a few bands at Metal Fest at The Castle out in Dandenong. I'll definitely turn on "tourist" mode. I'm also really looking forward to going on tour with The Bright Star Alliance in September. It's gonna be awesome. I'd be heading up to New South Wales, Adelaide etc. I'm stoked! They're top blokes, the best band to work with.
Oh, I'm looking forward to Saturday night as well. Merdeka eve celebration at CQ and also playing a set there. Expecting it to be rad.
Looks like there's heaps to look forward to!

7th August 2008. Day One.
Avalon Airport, Melbourne. Time picture was taken from the window of the games room at Avalon airport, waiting to hop on that plane to Sydney. That was the plane that I boarded.
Sydney Domestic Airport. Look what kind of weather greeted us in Sydney.
Darling Harbour. It's a good thing the rain cleared later that evening. I was pretty excited to walk along Darling Harbour. It was freezing but there was a submarine docked right outside the Maritime Museum. As a kid, I've always wanted to see what a real sub was like. I wonder if the Museum actually gives you access on the sub.
There was also an old skool ship which I thought looked like a pirate ship from my imagination from reading Treasure Island.
Despite the rain and cold, there was an awesome sunset just providing a nice backdrop to Day One in Sydney.
It's funny how those buildings look as if they are fake, as if they were a huge backdrop of a stage set up.
The City. I thought this little shop was cute. Pie Face.
The Strand. This building reminded me of the Block Arcade in Melbourne. Awesome heritage.
A shot inside The Strand.
The Queen Victoria Building also reminded me of Melbourne's GPO.

There are more pictures from Day One but I thought I'd upload the highlights so that it doesn't clog up my blog's loading time.

I have lost all faith in electronics and tecnology. Yes, they've been a great help and it has made man's life easier. I mean heck, the fact that I am typing on this computer, uploading posts onto a server somewhere across the world is fantastic and amazing.
But the sad thing is that technology has failed me too many times for me to put my complete trust in it. It really depends on what you see as important to you. If your life depends on the technology and it fails on you, that'll be just terrible wouldn't it? Take work for example, I rely on electronic gear to do my job. If I have a dead channel on the mixing desk, I would be handicapped by the sheer lack of channels. Today however, my rant isn't on pro audio gear. It's about plain old, consumer personal computers.
I've lost countless hard drives over the years but all the while, it never made that huge an impact. Sure, I've lost heaps of memories when I lost pictures or heaps of ideas when all my demos went with the hard drive. But it was nothing compared to what happened last year when all my uni work went with my hard drive that fried. The fried hard drive was a blessing in disguise but it does not stop the fact that technology blew up in my face. Now, thinking that I've got a new hard drive, I should be all sweet but no, even this new one is acting up again. Does this mean I have to buy hard drives every year now? What the heck is going on?
Funny thing just happened as I am typing this. Guess what, the spellcheck just suddenly stopped working. How awesome! Everything is falling apart. I should learn to never put my faith and trust in computers.

I can't believe that all I have is six hundred and thirteen posts in this blog after all these years. It's amazing how time can fly when you put things off. I guess this makes six hundred and fourteen. I'm glad that I'm actively seeking things out now that I'm back on my feet again. It ain't fun being sick for such a long time. So enough is enough.
It was a fantastic Sunday yesterday. It was an early start and I felt like my friends and I did heaps together! It started off with a nice breakfast at Chimmey's before Sunday service.
Then we headed out to the Yarra Primary school for our community blitz where teams of people were doing heaps of stuff to clean up the entire school and make it nice and bright. We were assigned to paint some staircase railings. It was an awesome time! It wasn't like hardcore hard work, plus the weather was perfect.
As if being at the blitz for four hours wasn't tiring enough, we headed to a park to play rugby. I think that was the most exercise I've had in months. It was just simply living the Aussie lifestyle.
After all that, we fed ourselves well at one of my friend's favourite Vietnamese restaurant. It was a feast and it was definitely good times. It's good to be out and about again.

Bits of a new song I'm working on.
If the city and the lights
They are screaming out your name tonight
Then so will I
If the city and the lights
They are screaming out your name tonight
Then I will do the same too

What Do Magicians Do?
0 Comments Published by Kevin Broken Scar on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 5:22 PM.Disappearing acts, that's what they do. I'm no magician but that was what I just did for the last two weeks. I've got a good reason. I was sick as a dog for the whole time. It was such a bad case of flu. My body just didn't want to co-operate with my mind. So the best thing was to sleep it off and take time off to recover.
I'm getting back up on my feet again. Last Saturday Zach and I played at the Empress Hotel. We had a blast and it felt really good. When you're on stage, everything around you just disappears and you enter your own world. I still had phlegm while I was singing and the hardest thing was that it could neither come out or go all the way in. Haha. I hope you're not eating as you read this. Phew.

This post should have been up ages ago. On the 9th of July, I walked in to Allans Music and bargained my way through to pick up this new baby. She plays like a gem and she sings so sweetly. This is definitely one of those things I can add to the "this is one of the best purchases I've made in my life" list. No regrets, no looking back. I know it's only been a month, but every time I pick this baby up, I love playing it. I've found the guitar suited for my needs and the sound I've been looking for, for over 8 years now. All the while, it was right under my nose.
As I recall, I actually told myself I'll never play a Fender let alone own one. Boy, was I wrong. Never say never eh?
The first thing I did after I bought it was to send Alda a text. "Bro, I bought the strat. I can join the Fender club now!" I could sense the excitement in Alda's reply too. It was definitely a day to remember.
