Puzzle Piece Goodbye

Puzzle Piece Goodbye
by inkmarksofsu

If I painted another me
You’d like me a little less
Because you thrive in cynical banter
Just like it flows effortlessly -
Each and every yesterday.

If I painted another you
You’d like me not at all
Because you love to hate
And loving to despise flows effortlessly -
Whenever I’m around you.

So if I become another me
You’ll resent me none the less
Because a vintage journal is more enticing
It is pleasing to the reader’s eye -
As it holds content in volume with cyanide delight.

When there is another me
You’ll fade like footsteps in the sand
You could never love another me
The edges of my puzzle piece have chipped away -
It doesn’t fit the picture any more.

You are just you -
Loving the picture you reside in
I am just another me -
Your picture brings much discomfort
A picture that completes you -
As much as you incomplete me.

This piece was written by a good friend of mine and I just had to re-post it here to share it. I fell in love with the train of thought and how well it flows from start to end. This piece is simply BEAUTIFUL!

Shout out to you Su Su!

The Violet Flames

I just got home from mixing The Violet Flames at The Espy in St. Kilda. The Violet Flames were freakin awesome and the crowd was amazing. They're only a 3 piece band but don't let that fool you because they sound HUGE! I had such a great time mixing the boys.

On a side note, St. Kilda was windy tonight but thank God it wasn't freezing. It was the calming kind of windy beach weather, the kind that you'd want to take a slow stroll by the shoreline and listen to the water crash into the sand and rocks. There was something about the St. Kilda air that made it romantic. I wish the weather stays this way so we don't freeze out butts off when the wife and I go see The Cat Empire soon.

On a completely random note, in my quest to find a healthier snack, I bought those low fat crackers from Safeway the other day and guess what, it is absolutely tasteless or rather, it tastes like cardboard and it's so hard that it cuts your mouth! So, goodbye low fat crackers. Moving right along to the next snack please.

An Honest Mistake

If you think having friends in high places is cool, try having your own flesh and blood being in that high place. I am proud that my little brother, Darren has grown to be a very charismatic young man. Best of all, I am proud that he is fronting An Honest Mistake, the band that makes their own brand of mind blowing, foot stomping and body moshing music. These 5 guys and a girl are making headlines everywhere. They're bringing the storm!

They say that a picture is worth a million words, well, how about a video? Check this out!

Kurt's Self Conclusion

It was over dinner with the wife that Kurt Cobain's name made an entry to the conversation. "If Kurt was still alive today, he would be 41 years old", she said. It got me thinking. I wonder what it would be like if he was still alive today. It's kind of a weird concept, but somehow his death immortalised him and made him a legend. I mean when we think of him, we remember him as the youthful 26 year old that he was and that memory will never be tainted. He eliminated the possibility of remembering him as an old jaded musician. I wonder if he knew that by ending it all, he would gain it all. I don't know whether it was the drugs, the pressure from the labels, or whether he genuinely could not find satisfaction in making music anymore that led to his self conclusion, but in every way he was a genius. That's my conclusion.

Sunday Sessions

I'm sure there would be a better picture of us during our set, but in the mean time, this was taken at the recent Sunday Sessions. I love the star curtain backdrop. It makes it that extra bit special.

The set is still resonating in my mind. It's one of those times when you just let go and enjoy the ride. My amp died in the middle of our last song, Down but it was okay, we still had fun with it and changed the song on the fly. It was nice to vibe off each other when we least expected it and it resulted in ending the song differently, but perfectly. It's also really cool that Tjin has begun to play with a click track live too. Nice work Tjin!

A Sky Worth Of Thoughts

On one of The Limelight Hour shows, I was asked why I chose to be an independent artiste throughout all these years. It got me to thinking, why did I choose it and what are the pros and cons of being independent. There was a sky's worth of thoughts that went through my head regarding the pros and cons but I won't have to go into great detail today. Maybe I'll save that for another time.

At the end of the day, the most important thing is that you are happy. I produce and co-host a radio show, I've got an album and an online EP out and a few number one singles and along the way I've had awesome band members, shared the stage with awesome bands and artistes and I've met heaps of awesome people. I am happy.

Divine Appointment

Tomorrow is the big day. One more sleep to go and we'll be hitting the stage at Miss Libertine but that's not what I want to talk about right now because this morning, I had a divine appointment.

It was one of those mornings that I didn't feel like waking up and getting ready to be where I was meant to be. I just dreaded it because I haven't had a chance to sleep in for so long and I was grumpy. Plus, it was a Saturday. All I wanted to do was stay in bed, you know? I'm sure you've had those mornings before. But I am glad I dragged myself out of bed at 6:30 am this morning to go and mix at the Revolution Conference at Bridge Church. I am glad I made the decision to be there because God knew that I needed to be there. He knew that I needed to hear the sermon from Ps Matt Garner.

The awesome thing about God is that He knows what I want and what I need. It did not matter that I didn't want to be there this morning and all I wanted to do was sleep in because the bottom line was that I needed to be there. It was a youth conference and usually the themes are catered to the teenagers. I could have easily "turned off" because all I was there to do was mix but God had bigger plans. I went there to "do a job" but came out a changed man. I learnt a lot today about faith, about making a physical action to cause a spiritual reaction, about listening closely to His voice and most importantly that God is just so incredibly magnificent.

I am glad that I serve an awesome prayer answering God. This is one of those pivotal points in my life that I ought to make a monument out of it because today my life changed. These are my rocks from the river.

Oh, I think I have also just uncovered the mystery of the fountain of youth. It's simple, surround yourself with passionate young people and you will feel younger and it will simply fuel your passion. This phrase resonates in my mind as I type this. "The younger generation can learn from the older generation's experience while the older generation can learn from the younger generation's passion".

This journey of discovery called life is so interesting and I'm glad I'm discovering it with the author of life Himself as well as the amazing friends and family I am surrounded with.
