Surviving

I am currently struggling to survive the day. It has been hectic in the past weeks with dramas of all sorts. If I could, I would write all about it but at the moment, I am not even sure if I will be able to finish this blog post as I had planned in my head.

It has been difficult to sleep at night these days. A myriad of thoughts and ideas occupy the space in my head. For some strange reason, they become very active especially at night, keeping me from sleeping well.

Ideas come at the strangest times and if you don’t capitalize on them, they would just disappear without a trace. I don’t really mind if the ideas are good, but one will never know whether they are good ideas or not until they are realized in their full potential. Anyway, worries occupy this creative space as well. It’s a bummer really to have to juggle so many things at the same time. Emotions haven’t even come into play yet. Put all that together, jumble it up and see what a mess it can be.

So, instead of fighting it, I went with it. I used to stay up late, doing things which are not that mentally taxing but these days I stay up working on assignments full fledge. Sometimes moods do get the best of you even if you have the best if intentions. I love the assignments I work on, but it’s just hectic, robbing me from a balanced life.

It boils down to a matter of priority I guess and I’m having a hard time prioritizing. I hate having to choose which gets more attention.

Another factor causing my lack of sleep is inconsiderate neighbors. They’d start partying at midnight or sometimes at 2am and the music doesn’t stop till the next day. I am not exaggerating. Last week, it went on for 36 hours straight! The bass pounding the thin apartment walls was killing me. I’m a musician and don’t mind loud music, but not for 36 hours straight. I’d die of fatigue. That’s how loud it was. It drove me to the point where I had no choice but to write them a note to ask them if they could turn the music down. It wasn’t a hate note though. I tried to write it as pleasant and as nice as possible.

So here I am, sitting here, just trying to survive this day. There’s heaps to do but there’s so little time. Always comes back to the same case, back to square one.

I am currently working on my business plan assignment and I wish I had more time to do an excellent one, but now I’m not too sure what the outcome will be.

We’ll see…

Twenty Four

Today, I turned twenty four. I still feel the same although I’m approaching the quarter century mark. I still have wants like a little kid thinking, “what am I going to get this year?” but this year has been interesting.

This turning of age gave me a few thoughts. You know how they always say that the grass is greener on the other side? What they forgot to tell us was that when you get on the other side, you could finally judge for yourself. Is the grass really greener on this side or was it better on the previous? At the end of the day, the outcome depends on how you view it all. It’s all a matter of perspective.

Once you get to the other side, it also depends on whether you’d see certain things just because they are obvious or because you choose to see them and vice versa.

Another thought is that when you want something bad enough, you will get it, not because you deserve it but if you work hard enough for it and the fact that you want that something bad enough, you will make it happen.

However, the above tend to suggest man-made ways to achieve what you want. The best thing about it all is that if I put God first, He’ll give me the things that are best for me. I’m in good hands.

On another note, watching John Mayer live for the first time was awesome. It was one of the best shows I’ve been to and it was worth every penny. His set was rather short, compared to a 2-hour set by Deftones but it was still awesome. This way, he leaves his audience and fans wanting more.

His band was awesome. It was a full band set up including a bassist, a drummer, 3 guitarists including John himself, a keys player, a sax player and a trumpet player, all of which their names I can’t remember. I’m bad with names, as always.

The guitar tone in particular stood out the most compared to all the other instruments. The tone was just so warm and sweet. It made me want to sell all my gear to buy a Fender Strat, a Martin and a Taylor. Well, even if I sell everything I currently own, I couldn’t even buy one of the guitars I mentioned. Oh well, here goes to dreaming. Why? Because dreams do come true.

My birthday lunch was awesome too. We had a seafood buffet. The food was yummy although it wasn’t the best. Let’s just say that by the end of it, I could hardly walk. I might have to go on a serious diet.

The most important bit is that I got to spend it with the love of my life, as cheesy as it sounds. It was the best!

In about 15 minutes time, the celebrations will be over but like I always say, my birthday celebrations could last for weeks and I’m down with that! The more the better!

*Raises glass. Cheers!

Seeing The Mayer Tonight

Go back in time to around this time last year, it seemed like today was light years away. Today finally arrived. It's the night I've been looking forward to, for a long time. John Mayer live at Vodaphone Arena baby!

The Mayer's a genius!

I'm not going to get my hopes up too high just in case the sound won't be that great. But secretly, I hope that this will be the best concert ever. Now that I've said it, it's no secret anymore huh?

If I could shake the man's hand, it'll be one heck of a cool birthday present.

Young Modern

Yes, that is right! Want to stay young and modern perpetually? Here's the formula.

Silverchair's Young Modern, out now. Get it! You don't know what you are missing out if you do not!

Taken Home

I have just handed in the Entertainment Law take-home exam. It was due at 5 pm and because I had to come home to do some final editing, formatting and adding the final touches to it, I only managed to hand it in at 450 pm, which was close!

I also realised that this was the first time I have ever sat for an exam like this. It was given to us last Monday and we had the whole week to work on it. My friends asked, “wouldn’t that be an assignment then, since you’ve got all week to work on it?”. The answer is no because the questions are actually in an exam format and we have to answer them just like a normal exam, except that we get to take it home. It was similar to an open book exam, just that the duration of this exam was one whole week as opposed to the usual few hours.

So basically, for the whole week, we could discuss the questions legally, look up all our notes, research on the Internet and work on the exam.

The exam consisted of 4 questions with an average of 4 parts in each question. At a glance, it looked fairly simple and straightforward but after diving into it, the complication unfolded. In law, there doesn’t seem to be a straightforward answer. Everything can be argued from so many different angles and have very different conclusions. The question sheet was only 4 pages long but my answers had a grand total of 27 pages. If I had more time to work on this piece, it would have gone totally out of control and my mind would have overloaded big time.

By the end of it all, I could recite the cases and arguments, in and out. I read the cases so many times that it’s not even funny.

Anyway, I am glad that it is over now and I have learnt heaps from it. My lecturer said that we could have easily sat for this exam in the usual format where we studied like mad, sat for a paper that went for a few hours and forget all about it after that. Where as, this format helped us understand Entertainment Law for life.
