Procrastinating 101

What happens when you have a thesis deadline to meet? Well, you procrastinate. What? You mean that's news to you? I thought everyone does it.

Somehow, I could find a million and one things to do to procrastinate when there's the deadline waiting. I'd work on the thesis a bit, play guitar a bit, work on the thesis a bit, research non-thesis related but music related stuff a bit, and hey, before I know it, the day is over! Great!

Thin Air

It's nice when you can make stuff by yourself. I am not disregarding the fact that it is God who enables me, but it's more like not asking from help from peers and being able to do things yourself.

I'm addicted to making things. There's just this thrill of making things out of thin air. That's why I chose art. The best part of it is being able to connect to someone, even if it's just one person.

One Week

Wow, it's been a week already since I got back to Melbourne. The good news is, brand new single, Shooting Star is on Fly FM's Campur Chart at number ten. I believe, that if everyone pulls together and help vote for the track, it'll climb up the charts. A million thanks in advance!

For those who missed the chart show on the radio a few weeks ago, you could check it out at:

We were interviewed by Basil and I played a live acoustic version of Shooting Star.

You could also check out the radio version of Shooting Star at www.brokenscar.com or www.purplehouz.com

Campur Chart

Fly FM's Campur Chart Goes Live @ Laundry Bar
7 February 2008

Line up from L-R: Hanafi, Alex, Kev, Alda

Hanafi (Mr. Itu Kamu) rocking out!

Digital bass bins anyone?

All photographs taken by Ili

Huge thanks to Basil, Hawa, Moe and everyone at Fly FM for organising such an awesome gig and having us on the bill. It was a great way to spend the first day of Chinese New Year. We had heaps of fun playing at the show as well as hanging out at the studio with you! Cheers heaps to Gerhana Ska Cinta and Phlowthron as well! You guys were awesome!

Sound check for this gig took forever though. Thanks to the incompetent labelling of mic inputs and outputs, sound check was delayed terribly. On the bright side, the show still got up and running and Laundry sounded better than ever, thanks to Wafiey, the audio engineering genius! Wafiey, it was great to have you do sound for us. You're the best! Keep rockin!

We also featured my brother Darren, bassist of Army Of Three on our first song, Until I Fall, singing and screaming with us. It was a great night! As you would have noticed by now, we've featured several guitarists at gigs. We had Paul Chuah of Qings & Kueens, Daniel of now defunct Edge Of Fire and Hanafi of award winning band, Estranged! It was such a pleasure to have played with these guitar giants! Thanks guys for bringing your flavour and colour into Broken Scar!

I know these photos aren't the best quality but this gig was memorable and these photos are the only ones I have for now. If anyone has pictures, please feel free to send them to me. Look at the crowd, it was HUGE!

Huge thanks to Wing Meng and Kevin of Love Me Butch and everyone at Crossborders for having us on the bill for the show. It was a freakin awesome show and we had truck loads of fun! Much love!

KLPAC Open Day @ Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre
27 January 2008

It was a beautiful day at KLPAC. The sun was out man and it was weird to play a 10:30 AM set. To top it all, I performed outdoor and I underestimated the Malaysian humidity. It's been a while since I've performed outdoor you see. It has almost always been indoors, in clubs, at night.

I had heaps of fun as it was an open day, sort of like a family day. My family was there, which was the best part of it all. We all had a great time exploring all the exhibits and events around the facility.

This show was organised by Jasmine Low and the Doppelganger team. Shelley sang on Hey You with us. It was a great night for us all and it was truly a reunion, just like the gig title suggests.

I Chose

I guess this is the life I chose. I chose to go down this path and along came the price I had to pay. It's just like any other paths out there, it always comes with a price tag. Some may view it as a challenge and some may view it as a stumbling block. I however, viewed it as a challenge that I can conquer and making the choice was the easy part. Looking back and reviewing things in retrospect was also an easy task. But the hardest thing to do is when you're right in there, making the changes and adjustments. It gets even harder when emotions kick in.

So here I am, just allowing the emotions to kick in, revved into high gear and taking over the wheel.

I guess this is the price I have to pay for living a double life. I'm neither here, nor there. What now?
Edit:

Someone read this post and said that it sounded negative and it doesn't quite represent the true situation. I guess the post came out a bit wrongly as I my posts seem quite vague to most but I know exactly what I'm saying. haha. But the whole price I have to pay is having to miss people when I leave one place for the next. It's a privilege though that I get to live in two places and not just one. So yes, this post isn't an negative and ungrateful one, it's just an emo one, dear.

Kev

Wind Down

Okay, no more advertisements and gig announcements for now. The past two months have been heavily filled with gigs and almost nothing but gigs.

I just want to say a huge thank you, to everyone who has rocked up for our shows, listened to the radio for our brand new single and voted for the single. It has been a great time of catching up and partying! It's time now though, to take a little step back and take a breather as I head back to another half of my life that's waiting for me in Melbourne. I look forward to see all of you back in KL real soon, or you could always come visit me in Melbourne.

Please continue to vote for Shooting Star on Fly FM. It'll mean the world to me and the boys if it goes to number one. Please give us a third number one single.

Email FLY FM at: campurchart@gmail.com with the subject "Broken Scar" to vote.

Thanks heaps!

Rashdan also told me that there is an article on Broken Scar in today's Malay Mail. It was the interview conducted before the Hennessy show at Zouk last month.

Shooting Purple Stars

Check out the rough mixed version of our upcoming single, Shooting Star at:
It was recorded at Purple Houz Productions, headed by Francis Cobb. Sel recorded the track and is giving it the final touches as I type this. Sel is a genious. He is an excellent producer and engineer. He will bring out the best in you and he has lightning speed fingers working with Pro Tools. I had a good team to work with. Great producers, great engineer and most importantly, great musicians. Thanks Alda, Alex and Paul. This is just part one of many thanks to come.
Feel free to check out the track. Feedback is always welcomed.
